Yichang wins 2016 Sustainable Transport Award (China)

The Chinese city of Yichang has won the 2016 Sustainable Transport Award for its innovative and sustainable transport projects.

The second-largest city in the Hubei Province was recognised for launching a successful bus rapid transit system (BRT), implementing parking improvements and introducing a new bike-sharing scheme.

Yichang beat-off stiff competition from finalists Moscow (Russia) and Rosario (Argentina).

The vice-mayor of Yichang, Chuanqiang Mao, was presented with the award at a ceremony in Washington, DC.
